Study Skills

6th Grade Study Skills

Course Overview

This course is designed to assist students with the transition from 5th to 6th grade.  Students previously had one classroom throughout the day and they were able to keep their items and supplies in their desks.  The transition to 6th grade takes tremendous organization as students now have six classes a day and they have to keep their supplies and books in their backpacks.  This course will help students with organization in their backpacks and recording homework in their binder reminders. Students also will be exposed to checking their own grades through Aeries, how to use Google Classroom, how grades are calculated, regular grade checks, and specific study skills.

Student Expectations

All assignments, homework, and due dates FOR ALL CLASSES should be recorded by the student in their binder reminder at the beginning of each class.  The study skills class will reinforce this important component along with other strategies for middle school success.

Study Skills Buddy

It is recommended that students find a buddy or two in the class who they can contact for information regarding class and class work!

How to Organize Your Binder

Please have at least four sections in your binder.  These will be labeled for each of your core classes.  You may have additional tabs for your elective courses.  It is important to keep completed work whether or not is was practice or graded.  Most units build off of each other and you may need your notes in the future. Parents, please do not throw away your child’s work without talking to your child first.
