All students at Southport Elementary have the opportunity to attend Sly Park Science Camp during their 6th grade year.  For this year (2017-2018), WUSD is covering the cost of tuition to Sly Park for all 6th grade students and families will only be responsible for the cost of transportation.  Fundraising opportunities are available to cover transportation costs.

Some quick facts for the 2017-2018 school year Sly Park trip:

The dates for camp are Monday, October 30th - Friday, November 3rd.

Students will take busses (either school bus or charter bus, depending on availability) to and from camp while supervised by Southport teachers.

All meals from Monday afternoon to Friday afternoon are included.

Students are supervised and taught by credentialed Sly Park science teachers throughout the week as well as their Southport teachers.

Students will sleep in dorm-style cabins with bunk beds and bathrooms, separated into boy and girl buildings.  Parent chaperones stay in the cabins with students.

Students will have partners throughout the week (boys have boy partners, girls have girl partners) from Southport that they will depend on in the Sly Park buddy system.

The cost of transportation to and from Sly Park will be no more that $35 dollars per student.  You may choose to pay for this cost upfront, or fundraise to cover it.

An informational session about Sly Park will be held at Back to School Night on August 30th, 2017 in Room 39 from 6:30-7PM.  Please come to ask questions and learn more about the camp experience.
