Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am so happy to be your child’s teacher! Our classroom website is sure to keep you informed of all the exciting things we will be learning in Room 19. We are going to have a FANTASTIC year in FIFTH grade!
Take Note!

Take Note!

  • Please regularly check our “Class Locker” for important documents, weekly newsletters, and study guides. These letters also go home every Monday. The newsletter should then be kept in the binder or at home for the rest of the week.
  • When you click on the subject pages above the "Class Locker", you will find learning websites and helpful resources.
  • Personal responsibility and organization are KEY in 5th grade! Please check the student planner nightly to ensure your child is recording their daily assignments and the due dates of long-term projects. Homework should be placed in the proper subject divider and returned the following day. Use time management skills to keep up with long-term assignments.
  • Don’t forget to study weekly spelling and vocabulary words (quiz on Fridays). Check for reading comprehension at home nightly by asking your child questions about the current classroom novel and anthology stories. Use the weekly study guide as a tool when preparing for Friday tests.
  • Encourage your child to read for enjoyment every night! In the classroom we have self-selected reading time. We will begin Reading Reflection letters, due every Friday, very soon.
School Supplies

School Supplies

  • 5th Grade Homework Binder: Please ensure your child has a 3-ring binder with the proper dividers. This binder should also have a pencil pouch to keep necessary writing tools for homework and in class, a student planner (provided by the school), plastic page protectors, and loose-leaf lined paper.
  • All other supplies have been provided. If a supply is lost or mistreated, it will be the student's responsibility to provide a new one. Spiral notebooks, composition books, pencils, erasers, pens, art supplies, lined paper, note cards, and whiteboard markers are items that may need replacing.
  • Please make sure your child has a special place at home to complete homework assignments. A toolbox filled with pencils, pens, erasers, art supplies, scissors, a ruler, etc. will be very helpful when completing assignments throughout the year.
  • If you would like to contribute to our classroom supplies, I have listed items that we use regularly below. These items may be brought in throughout the year.
  • Tissue
  • Dry-erase markers for whiteboard (black only)
  • Pencils (#2)
  • Glue Sticks
  • Writing paper (lined)
  • Note Cards (lined)
  • Regular white copy paper, bright colored copy paper, and thicker card stock
  • Office supply store gift card for printer ink
  • Tissue and Clorox wipes
Thank you for supporting your child's learning!
