Math doesn't have to be a chore! Explore some new ideas for simple hands-on math games that you can do with your kids, whether you are at home or on the go.

During our time together we will build some background knowledge about reading strategies, share some activities, websites, and games that can be used to support reading at home, and explore possible resources parents can use to help their students develop a love for reading.

In this session parents will learn what WICOR means as well as explore some WICOR strategies. Parents will explore note taking techniques, organization, close reading techniques and strategies for supporting their students at home.

Talking With Your Child About Drugs and Alcohol (Room 34)
West Sacramento Police Officers and Southport counselors will present on having important conversation with your child about drugs and alcohol. Information will be shared on the dangers of vaping and what parents should look for.

Restorative Practices are an effective, researched based alternative response to wrong-doing. These practices are designed to help students build strong relationships with supportive adults, repair relationships with those who have been harmed by wrong-doing and teach appropriate behaviors. Please join us to learn about the incorporation of additional Restorative Practices in our school district and leave with tips to support your child and Southport Elementary with Restorative Practices at home!

In this session, we will discuss what standards-based learning is, take a closer look at what it looks like in the classroom and talk about strategies you can use tonight to help your child at home.

With the SBAC Tests fast approaching for 3rd-8th graders, it is important to set you child up for success by providing them with opportunities to practice! Come and learn how to log into the variety of Math, Language Arts, and Science practice tests that you can easily administer at home through the CAASPP Portal.

Join us as we highlight opportunities for parental input and involvement at school.  We will also celebrate ways parents have contributed to Southport, as well as provide an opportunity to brainstorm ideas to support our students.

Parenting in 2019: Technology in Our Homes, Our Children's Future, and in Our Hearts (Room 39)
This conversation on parenting in the era of snapchat, Instagram, and extreme social pressure will be interactive and informative. Topics covered include a review of social media apps, a discussion on household rules and governance, as well as setting Standards and holding children accountable.
