Southport Middle School teachers will be joined by River City High School and Washington Middle College High School administrators to share information on how AVID strategies can help students of all ages better prepare themselves for high school and to be college and career ready.
Southport Assistant Principal Stuart Bushnell will be joined by Southport support staff members Eli Leon (Outreach Specialist) and Graciela Garcia (School Social Worker) for a discussion on how Southport supports students who are struggling with bullying issues. Topics will include the WUSD Suspected Bullying Report Form, teaching parents about the support systems available to students, and a discussion on what parents can do at home to support their children.
Southport teachers and WUSD program specialists will teach parents how to navigate aspects of the internet in regards to their child's digital citizenship. Presenters will share helpful strategies on how to address your student's digital access and presence.
Southport teachers will lead a discussion on what it means to have a Growth Mindset and the "YET" movement we are developing at Southport. Parents will be given tools to share with their children on how to maintain a Growth Mindset. Academic challenges are just skills that student haven't mastered....YET!
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Southport teachers and WUSD program specialists will share information on the MTSS process, both from a district-wide lens and how it is being utilized at Southport. Parents will learn about the academic and social-emotional supports that are available to all students who need support.
